My friends and I are wanting to design some of our own clothes, but I don’t have a sewing machine, other than my grandma’s that I MIGHT be able to borrow, but it’s ancient, and the controls are SOO confusing. How much would a simple, yet good quality sewing machine be? And where could I find one?

I can’t be the only one who watches an episode and thinks that this would be such a great hobby to have!!! I want a dress form and a good sewing machine… and someone to watch my preschooler while I sew…and someone to make dinner…and do laundry…ok, then reality hits, but it looks like so much fun.

I have an old Singer (1979-ish). I’ve threaded it correctly (I believe), the bobbin is full, and the needle is good. It starts out sewing fine, and then starts gradually skipping more stitches until it’s just poking the fabric.

I’m sewing on jersey fabric, straight stitch.

What could be causing this?

My mother recently gave me her 30+ year old Brother sewing machine. I am trying to play with it but she neglected to show me how to thread it! She tried to tell me over the phone but couldn’t remember it well enough. Help if you can please!

No free, informative sites seem to have my sewing machine model, and I have no idea how to re-thread a bobbin. It looks like my only choice is to pay for a new manual, considering I lost mine.

My mother-inlaw gave me her mother-inlaws sewing 1959 sewing machine. It has the wooden workstation, desk, thing that it’s inside and her mother-inlaw painted that part white to make it match the rest of the room it was in. I like the old wood that it was originally, and would LOVE to know how to get the paint off without harming the wood.

I LOVE to sew, and I’m looking to get a new sewing machine. I want to make draperies, and be able to do the blind stitch, if possible, and also have a variety of other stitches, and not jus tthe straight and zig zag Like Iis all I can currently do. Does anyone know of any GOOD sewing machines that are NOT incredibly expensive. I would like to spend LESS than $500.

I am looking for sewing patterns for corsets. A friend is getting married, and I have agreed to help her out by sewing undergarments for her bridal party. The women are to be dressed as Southern Belles circa 1850 (Think Gone With The Wind).
I am not looking for absoluely authentic patterns. Its not being judged by the 1850 costuming police. I just need a good corset pattern that will stand up to cinching the waist an inch or two, without being too bulky. If the patterns are a bit mroe modern or older in design, I can deal with that, noone will be seeing them.

My sewing machine is having problems… When I try to sew a straight line the stitch lengths are different sizes and uneven. How can I fix it? I’d rather not have to take it to a shop… to expensive… any ideas?
